Death in Torrevieja is a portrait of a stagnant Spain, living from day to day and looking for easy money, working for tourism, trapping itself in a vicious cycle of quick income in the summer and scarcity in the winter. Chetia thinks she is the queen of Torrevieja, a nini who earns money by swindling tourists in illegal balconing bets, but her reality is much more difficult when she returns home: she has to take care of her son, Yeray, a child she was forced to have and who anchors her to a city that consumes her and from which she desperately wants to flee.
